Safety

Safety is one of the ways we can have radical impact and make roads safer for everyone. Not only do we design vehicles that are conscious of age, gender, body type and disability, we strive to launch vehicles in all socioeconomic communities worldwide – so everyone can benefit from safer transportation.

As a technology company, we are continuously finding ways to innovate and make significant improvements in safety. We conduct research, develop safety-focused technologies and increase assistance and automation in our vehicles via over the air updates.

Our strategy

Using data-driven safety analysis, we aim to reduce the number and severity of road hazards and risks. But in the event of a crash, we aim to protect road users through a combination of active and passive safety systems.

Ultimately, we need to dramatically decrease vehicle miles travelled (VMT) to affect the number of road injuries and fatalities. At Arrival, we are accelerating the use of zero-emission commercial vehicles in segments that affect VMT. Our vehicles will increase access to shared mobility solutions and mass transit, thus reducing individual road travel.

As we engage with cities around the world, we will continue to explore how we can provide the data and resources they are looking for to make infrastructure improvements and empower their communities with safety initiatives.

                At Arrival, we design, engineer and manufacture the components of our vehicles in-house. Vertical integration enables us to control the functionality and cost of our products – passing the cost-savings on to the customer.
                

All of our components are designed on a modular grid-based system for simple assembly. Each component can be used across Arrival’s different vehicle platforms, allowing manufacturing at scale and rapid development of new vehicle types.

Modular and versatile

Arrival components are all plug & play – hardware that’s enabled by software. Each component is easily upgradeable over the air and when it’s time, predictive software empowers quick replacement. This ability to upgrade both hardware and software extends the lifespan of an Arrival vehicle by twice that of an average commercial vehicle.

Arrival Composite Materials

Materials

Arrival’s proprietary composite materials are low cost, strong and lightweight. 50% lighter than steel, yet durable and resistant to damage. Any vehicle maintenance required is easier and more cost-effective as a result.

Eliminating the use of sheet metal has removed complicated stamping and welding processes during manufacturing. Everything is moulded and shaped to form the vehicle, which allows us to create any type of vehicle rapidly and on demand.

The Microfactory

Arrival is pioneering a decentralised method of making electric vehicles. Our local, low-footprint Microfactories use cell-based robotic assembly instead of a traditional automotive production line.

Microfactories are set up in areas of demand using existing commercial spaces or warehouses and require lower capital expenditure to establish. Operational 6 months from a site’s readiness, they can be profitable from much lower volumes with superior unit economics and enhanced flexibility in operations.

By localising the supply chain, Micforactories reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing. Serving individual cities and making products customised to regional needs, they will provide jobs, grow local supply chains and empower communities – enabling a clean, circular and more equitable future.

For a new method of design and production

Enabling Technologies

We’re developing components, software, hardware and robotics in-house to be used across all our vehicles. By removing third-party suppliers, our vertically integrated business can be quicker and more cost-efficient in production.

Arrival vehicles use plug-and-play components. Our modular design based on grid architecture allows for quick assembly, easy replacement and multiple configurations.

Our vehicles are more than vehicles – they’re devices on wheels. Digitally empowered with a suite of software tools, they connect and communicate with the world around them, enabling better performance.

Software

Our vehicles are produced with a proprietary composite material. The material is lightweight, durable and recyclable – improving the environmental impact of the vehicles.

Everything we make is designed for robotic assembly – from components to our vehicle platforms. Each element comes together in a single, smart production cell within our Microfactories.
